FPWC Profile

The "Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets in the Republic of Armenia"(FPWC) was established in 2001. FPWC implements environmental projects in cooperation with professionals from various fields like ecologists, environmental law specialists as well as specialists in tourism and regional development. One of the main aims of FPWC is to shoot films focused on environmental issues in Armenia. These films are used as a teaching aid in environmental education in order to raise the public awareness for the preservation of Armenian biodiversity.

During recent years FPWC produced the first film series about Armenian wildlife. The 30 parts of this series were broadcast by local TV channels. The participation of the films in international eco-film festivals resulted in various awards some of them were firsts.

In 2006 FPWC started to establish the project "Following the Sun" an environmental education program for children and youths. The program was implemented in 6 regions of Armenia. SunChild Eco-clubs were established inYerevan, Garni/Goght, Dilijan, Gyumri, and Urtsadzor where nearly 1000 child-members learnt to gain a fresh look at their surrounding world by the use of photo and video cameras. Additionally the "SunChildren" participated in various environmental trainings. Basic aim of this program is to arouse children’s love and respect for nature.

After finishing the pilot program "Following the Sun" we can say by sure that the trainings organized in SunChild Eco-clubs really proofed to be a workable structure. Currently FPWC establishes SunChild Eco-clubs in all Armenian regions. The young members are not only informed about the environmental situation in their regions but also shoot films focused on local environmental issues. The first five environmental short documentaries filmed by Armenian children aroused already international attention and received many invitations from international film and environmental festivals for example in Bosnia, Greece, Finland, Italy, Germany, Estonia and France.

The first and the most important aim of the "Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets in Republic of  Armenia" is to establish a stable network among those ones who are interested in environmental issues and concerned about the situation in nature protection field. We are deeply convinced that such a network can initiate positive changes in the environmental situation not only in Armenia but in the whole South-Caucasus region.
