"Save the Nature" Campaign

The “Save the Nature” campaign is implemented by FPWC in cooperation with VivaCell-MTS. It is integrated in the company's Corporative Social Responsibility (CSR) which strongly emphasizes the importance of education and nature protection. The overall aim of the campaign is to implement environmental education for the young generation throughout Armenia and to raise the general awareness of Armenian society for environmental issues and the treasures of the country's nature.
Main target group of the campaign are children and youths in the age between 10 and 18 years. The campaign starts in September 2008 with the “Painting Day” kick off event. The peak point of the campaign will be SunChild International Environmental Festival in April/May 2009.
During the whole campaign bright and colorful environmental will draw public attention on the actual environmental problems and urge people to take actions against ignorant and careless attitude towards nature.

In the field of environmental education the basic working structure for the implementation of the campaign is the SunChild Eco-club network. From September 2008 onwards there will be working 10 SunChild Eco-clubs (one in each region) and one in Karabagh. SunChild Eco-clubs offer an independent youth work focusing on environmental education. SunChild Eco-clubs are independent from schools but they integrate teachers through the offering of environmental education workshops and cooperate with schools for special projects.

Guiding pedagogical principle in SunChild Eco-clubs is the education of young people to self determination, critical awareness and democracy. For example in future the young members of SunChild Eco-clubs will be empowered to analyze the environmental situation of their very community and to develop projects which just fit to the specific local conditions. By developing and implementing their own projects the “SunChild kids” will not only directly improve their local environment but will also gain knowledge and train their intellectual capacities. Moreover this will positively influence their future chances on a globalize labor market and as members of a modern civil society. Thus hopefully the young members of SunChild Eco-clubs in the coming years will be well trained professionals and critical citizens who are able to participate in democratic decision processes and to manage our natural resources sustain ably.

Due to the fact that children and youths who are participating in SunChild Eco-clubs courses are tools for multiplication of the environmental education in their schools and neighborhoods, one Eco-club can reach between 2000 and 3000 children. Taking into consideration a network of ten SunChild Eco-clubs all over Armenia the “Save the Nature” campaign can outreach up to 30.000 children and youths.
