Electric Fences for Areni Community: Strengthening Resilience and Peaceful Coexistence

Published on 16/10/2026

"Recently, the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), with funding from the H. Hovnanian Family Foundation, provided 10 electric fences to vulnerable households in the Areni community. This support is particularly aimed at beekeepers and orchard owners who are most frequently affected by human–bear conflict.

The assistance is implemented within the framework of the project ""Strengthening Community Resilience and Promoting Coexistence through Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation and Sustainable Resource Use in Areni"".

Community Management and Collective Protection

The provided electric fences will be used through a shared arrangement; beneficiary households will share and utilize them collectively to effectively protect their beehives, orchards, and livelihoods from damage caused by wildlife.

Main Goals of the Project:

Mitigation of human–bear conflict: preventing wild animals from entering cultivated areas and apiaries without causing harm to the animals,

Reduction of economic losses: preventing damage to vulnerable households and protecting local livelihoods,

Promoting peaceful coexistence: fostering a culture of harmonious side-by-side living between humans and wildlife through practical, community-based environmental solutions.

FPWC and the H. Hovnanian Family Foundation continue their consistent work aimed at ensuring sustainable development, building local resilience, and preserving biodiversity in Armenia's communities."
