Equipping 30 New Beekeepers in Yeghegis: Advancing Sustainability and Human-Wildlife Coexistence

Published on 28/05/2025

The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) has successfully equipped 30 aspiring beekeepers in the Yeghegis community of Vayots Dzor Province. Each beneficiary received professional beekeeping equipment valued at 500,000 AMD through the program “Mitigating Climate Change-Induced Human-Wildlife Conflict in Armenia.”

This initiative reflects FPWC’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainable livelihoods while addressing ecological challenges through nature-based solutions.

Supporting Sustainable Development
By fostering the development of beekeeping, the program not only stimulates local economic growth but also helps establish long-term income sources for rural families. This creates greater economic security and resilience for the community.

A Nature-Based Solution to Human-Wildlife Conflict
Beekeeping is a proven, environmentally friendly strategy to mitigate human-bear conflicts. It offers a peaceful alternative for coexisting with wildlife while helping to maintain ecological balance across vulnerable landscapes.

Enhancing Local Well-being
Beyond its environmental benefits, beekeeping offers a powerful opportunity to improve the quality of life in Yeghegis. The new equipment allows for higher-quality honey production, unlocking further potential for growth and development in the region’s beekeeping sector.

The UK Government generously funds this program through the Darwin Initiative, and it is part of FPWC’s broader commitment to sustainable development, conservation, and community empowerment across Armenia.
