Meet Beau, the Bear: From Captivity to Care

Published on 28/10/2025

Meet Beau, a brown bear rescued from a hotel complex in Hankavan after eight years of public concern and sustained advocacy. Beau is now safe at the Wild Animals Rescue Center (WRC) of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC).

Beau is currently undergoing a mandatory quarantine period, after which he will be transferred to a large free-range enclosure designed to meet his behavioral and physical needs.

At the Rescue Center:
He is receiving full professional care and veterinary supervision.
He is undergoing rehabilitative therapy aimed at addressing the psychological and physical impacts of prolonged captivity.
Our goal is to ensure that the remaining years of his life are spent in dignified, safe, and enriching conditions.

Concerns about Beau’s inadequate living conditions had been repeatedly raised by the public since 2017. The rescue operation was successfully completed in 2025 through the coordinated efforts of FPWC’s professional team, our international partner International Animal Rescue (IAR), and relevant state bodies, including the Environmental Protection and Subsoil Inspectorate and the Ministry of Environment of Armenia.

This rescue is the result of long-term, persistent work—and a reminder that change is possible. Beau will now live under the careful attention of FPWC specialists, in conditions that respect his welfare and natural behavior.

Support our work and the Bear Rescue Program, and help us give rescued wildlife the future they deserve.
